Introducing the new Bingle Comprehensive Car Insurance Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for policies renewing on or after 16 March 2021. The PDS contains important information you need to know about your Bingle insurance product. Please ensure you read it carefully.
Here at Bingle we provide clear and simple car insurance. To help make it easier to read and understand the PDS, we've changed the layout and also combined the previous two-part document into one. We've also made changes to the terms, conditions and exclusions of your policy.
Below are some examples of things we have changed
- The section, 'Your part of the deal'
- Excesses
- How we settle your claim
- Unavailable parts
- Paying by Instalments
- What we don't cover
- Claims section
For full details, please refer to your PDS.
Details of some of the changes to the PDS
General exclusions are called 'What we don't cover'. Things we don't cover includes some new and updated exclusions such as:
- Your car if it was left unattended, unlocked and with the keys left in the car
- Extra costs or other losses following an incident covered by your policy
- Intentional or deliberate acts
- Alcohol, drugs, medication
- Reckless acts
- Unlawful purposes
The requirement to pay any applicable excess upfront in order to receive the policy benefits has been removed.
We'll also now waive the excess, instead of refunding it, if you or the driver of your car didn't contribute to the accident (this means the other driver was entirely at fault). You'll need to provide us with the name and address of the person who was at fault, and the registration number of the vehicle(s) involved.
The New for Old optional extra has been updated to explain the car age limits that apply and what will happen if we don't supply you with a new car under this option. In a nutshell, for cars less than 3 years old (at the start of your latest period of cover) we will pay you the reasonable replacement cost of a similar make or model to your car (less applicable deductions) or the market value of your car (whichever is greater) and your policy will come to an end.
During the period of insurance, if an instalment's overdue we'll let you know and we will now cancel your policy:
- by giving you at least 14 days advance notice; or
- without notifying you in advance if the instalment is 1 month (or more) overdue.
We will cover the reasonable costs of replacing the baby capsules and/or child seats stolen or damaged in an incident covered by the policy up to a maximum of $500 per item for any one incident.
If you decide to cancel your insurance cover with Bingle, you will no longer be charged a cancellation fee.
Sometimes we might need to fix or repair damage to your car that isn't covered by this policy (such as wear and tear, or pre-existing damage) in order to fix the damage that you are covered for. If this happens you may need to contribute to the cost of repairing that non-covered damage.
We'll work out how much you need to contribute based on how worn or damaged those items were at the time the covered damage happened. If you don't agree to pay these amounts, we will pay you the amount determined to be the cost of repairs directly related to the accepted claim.
We have the right, and you permit us, to take recovery action against a party responsible for your loss. To promote transparency, we have added examples of the assistance that may be required from you if we take action against a party for the recovery of your loss.
This includes specifying types of assistance we will pay for and covering costs for your out of pocket expenses for attending court up to $250 per claim.
We have updated the exclusion wording of driving after an incident in 'What's Out:' 'Types of loss or damage to your car that we don't cover'. We now provide an example of when you might drive your car after it's been damaged in an incident to prevent further loss or damage: driving your car from a busy motorway.
Changes have been made to the Claims section including introducing or changing:
- How we settle your claim
- Contribution to repairs
- When your car is a total loss
The information above is not a complete list of the changes to your Comprehensive Car Insurance.
