What is New for Old car insurance and how does it work?

  • Most cars can lose about 30% of their value in the first three years. This means if your car is a write off and it's only a few years old, the cost of replacing it could be quite a lot more than what it's insured for.
  • But here's the good news – Bingle has an optional extra called New for Old, also known as 'new for old car replacement' or 'new car in case of write off'.
  • If you hold this cover and your car is written off, we'll get you a brand new car of the same make and model. Or, if it's not available, you'll get the nearest similar make and model of equal value. You also get similar options, accessories or modifications. Read the PDS to find out more.

What's covered with the New for Old optional extra?

  • You'll get the same make and model to your current car (where available) including accessories.
  • We'll cover all on road costs, like stamp duty, CTP, registration and delivery charges.

Am I eligible for new for old car insurance?

  • We only cover cars that are up to 3 years old. If your car is older than this, you won't be able to get New for Old cover as an optional extra. We will simply pay you the market value of your car if it is deemed by us to be a write off.
  • You can only add this cover to a Comprehensive Car Insurance policy.
  • New for Old car insurance can't be added if you have a current or pending car insurance claim. Once you've added New for Old cover, you're only able to remove it at renewal time.
